The Hydrogen Opportunity in Atlantic Canada
Atlantic Canada has the opportunity to transform and become a global leader in green hydrogen. With some of the best onshore and offshore wind resources in the world, ice-free deep-water ports, and growing demand for clean hydrogen in Europe, Atlantic Canada is well positioned to become a green energy powerhouse. But turning that potential into reality? That’s the hard part.
In this first episode of Atlantic Canada’s Hydrogen Journey, guest host Derek Estabrook, Executive Director of the Atlantic Hydrogen Alliance, is with David MacGregor, Associate Deputy Minister of the Nova Scotia Department of Energy, to explore the strategic importance of green hydrogen in Nova Scotia’s energy transition and why it could be Nova Scotia’s biggest economic opportunity since “the Age of Sail.” We talk about what it will take to build a green hydrogen economy from scratch in Nova Scotia, including the challenges that must be tackled first - infrastructure development, new regulatory frameworks, and incentives. We also discuss how exporting hydrogen to Europe could be the key to making it more affordable in Nova Scotia.
